Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds fresh oranges (about 10 large oranges)
  • 2 cups sugar (or 1.5 cups for low sugar version)
  • ¼ cup orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash the oranges and zest them carefully, avoiding the bitter white pith.
  2. Halve the oranges and juice them, collecting both juice and pulp in a bowl.
  3. In a heavy-bottomed pot, mix together the orange puree, zest, sugar, and lemon juice until well combined.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat while stirring constantly. Reduce heat and simmer for about 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. To test for doneness, spoon a small amount onto a cold plate; if it holds its shape after cooling slightly, it's ready.
  6. Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars and seal tightly. Let them cool completely before refrigerating.
